On Becoming an Athlete

This morning, I signed up to do my first-ever triathlon in Houston. Appropriately titled "Ironbabes", its an all-women's event, which is quite good because I feel pretty apprehensive about busting out in a bathing suit on May 11th.

So, now starts two months of training, involving swimming classes every morning from 6-7:15 (are people even awake at that time? seriously?), weekend jogs/runs, and some leisurely biking at the rec center (biking in place allows me to read short stories, which I am so fond of). In general, I have avoided competitive sports for quite awhile, but don't really know why (maybe because there's a certain cognitive dissonance that I sense when I feel ultra competitive [I don't like that "cut-throat" feeling], maybe it's because I'm afraid of not finishing or failure....who knows.) Anyway, I'm doing it.

If anyone is interested in weekend training, let me know. I'm pretty pumped! Of course, I'll be tracking my progress, so I'm looking forward to asking my roommate to measure the circumference (sp?) of my behind this weekend in the buff. hehehehehehehehehe
