On My First Swim Lesson

Today was my first day of swimming lessons and, therefore, my first day of triathlon training. I was anxious to get started so I miraculously work up on time at 5:15am to get to the gym. I forgot my towel, but otherwise things went pretty smoothly. The only real challenge was prancing (walking sheepishly is more descriptive) around in a bathing suit without a cutsie little swim skirt.

Lorin, my swim coach, is the husband of a work colleague of mine (another reason why I love working at the U - so many connections), so he has known me for several years. He also knows that I'm training for a triathlon so he has that in mind as he is teaching me and working with me. Basically the first thing I figured out is that it has been a LONG time since I've really swam. I was a mess! I was scared to put my head under water and my form was gross. Thankfully, Lorin was very patient and worked with me on doing two to three different drills to help me with form and we had a "it's ok to snort water once in awhile - you'll live" chat.

Overall, it went great! I walked out of my first lesson refreshed and ready for more. I love the 15 minute commute to work and the cool breeze and sun rising as I come out of the gym. My ultimate plan is to start having my quiet times outside before work. Fab!

Yay for a super first day and for getting to experience the existential pleasure of being outside early!
